What We’re Looking For 🌟
Leadership and Management:
• Lead the daily operations of the room, ensuring routines run smoothly and the setting remains compliant with EYFS statutory requirements and Nursery’ policies.
• Act as Daily Lead or support the Nursery Manager and Deputy as required.
• Maintain ratios, plan room rotas including SEN time, planning, paperwork, and staff breaks.
• Contribute to the strategic direction of the nursery, including contributing to development plans, quality improvement goals, and team performance.
• Oversee the room's environment to ensure all areas of learning are evident, resourced, and reflective of children’s interests and next steps.
Childcare and EYFS Curriculum:
• Implement and monitor an effective educational framework that reflects the EYFS, ensuring all children access rich, varied, and purposeful learning experiences.
• Take lead responsibility for the planning, observation, assessment, and tracking of children's development using the nursery management system, including 2-year checks and SEND documentation.
• Act as a key person for a designated group of children, promoting strong relationships and personalised learning.
• Promote inclusive practice and ensure children’s individual needs are met through timely interventions and adaptations.
Staff Development and Teamwork:
• Role model best practice, professionalism, and a positive attitude at all times.
• Mentor and support apprentices, new staff, and less experienced colleagues through regular feedback, peer observations, and positive coaching.
• Contribute to and participate in supervisions, appraisals, and staff training plans.
• Ensure all team members are aware of daily plans, expectations, and room goals through effective briefings and open communication.
Health, Safety, and Compliance:
• Ensure high standards of hygiene, food safety, and site security at all times.
• Conduct regular risk assessments and ensure all outings, fire bags, and first aid kits are checked and replenished as per procedures.
• Understand and act in accordance with emergency procedures (Code Red, Purple, Fire, Lockdown).
• Ensure full adherence to safeguarding protocols, acting as Deputy DSL when required, and maintain up-to date knowledge of local safeguarding procedures.
Parent and Community Engagement:
• Build trusting, respectful relationships with families through daily handovers, updates on Nursery management system, and responsive communication.
• Lead and attend parent events and initiatives in line with the nursery’s calendar.
• Support new families through effective settling-in procedures, key person introductions, and reviews.
Nursery Ethos and Culture:
• Uphold the “Happy Children. Happy Parents. Happy Staff.” ethos at all times.
• Promote inclusion, respect, and a positive culture of teamwork and support.
• Maintain a well-presented, welcoming reception area and engage professionally with all visitors and external agencies.
• Be involved in marketing initiatives such as social media posts, daynurseries.co.uk reviews, and promoting parent testimonials.
Administrative and Organisational Responsibilities:
• Complete daily and weekly checklists, trackers, and planning documents accurately and on time.
• Monitor and update child and staff profiles on Nursery management system.
• Conduct and document POPs (Peer Observations of Practice), learning walks, and audits as required.
• Plan weekly activities, learning intentions, and communications for parents.
• Manage daily tasks such as registers, snack menus, and self-registration boards.
